絲肽指蠶絲絲素蛋白質(zhì)經(jīng)降解形成水溶性的多肽物質(zhì)。分子量一般在500－10000之間，水溶性好，白色粉末，茚三酮反應(yīng)呈陽性。PH值4.5－6.5。

絲肽的護(hù)發(fā)功能主要體現(xiàn)在對頭發(fā)的吸收性和吸附性、成膜性、調(diào)濕保濕性。

（1）吸收性和吸附性：

絲肽與其它水解蛋白(膠原蛋白、骨膠蛋白、明膠蛋白等)相比，最大特點就是營養(yǎng)豐富易被頭發(fā)所吸收。絲肽對于皮膚和毛發(fā)的吸收主要依靠滲透作用，具有直接性。絲肽濃度提高，則頭發(fā)對絲肽的吸收量也相應(yīng)增加。若是受損傷的頭發(fā)，對低分子量絲肽的吸收和吸附量更大，相應(yīng)地絲肽對頭發(fā)的修復(fù)和保護(hù)作用越明顯。

（2）成膜性：

分子量在500-2000的絲肽，其在頭發(fā)上的成膜性極好，且膜具特有的光澤，頭發(fā)手感好，有彈性。X射線衍射法表明：絲肽所形成的膜為β型結(jié)晶，絲肽在頭發(fā)上形成的膜，可增加頭發(fā)彈性和光澤。同時也可用作頭發(fā)定型劑，將PVP、膠原肽、淀粉類水溶液與絲肽作對比，在80%RH的潮濕條件下，用絲肽作定型劑，可使頭發(fā)長期保持良好的發(fā)型。

（3）調(diào)濕保濕性：

頭發(fā)失去一定的水分就會干燥、開叉、容易折斷、脫落。絲肽在頭發(fā)表面形成的膜能防止水份過多蒸發(fā)，作為天然調(diào)濕因子，還能調(diào)節(jié)頭發(fā)表面小空間的濕潤度，使頭發(fā)柔軟、光滑。
